Europe's largest and best-preserved delta — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve home to 300 bird species, vast reed beds and a way of life unchanged for centuries.
About this trip
The Danube Delta is one of Europe's last great wilderness areas. Covering over 5,800 km² of channels, lakes, reed beds and forests at the mouth of the Danube, it is home to over 300 bird species — including the world's largest colony of white pelicans outside Africa — plus otters, wild boar, lynx and rare fish species.
A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1991, the Delta is best explored by boat from the town of Tulcea. We drive you from Bucharest to Tulcea (about 3 hours), where you board a local boat tour through the channels to spot pelicans, cormorants, herons, eagles and the extraordinary landscape of Europe's most biodiverse wetland.
