The Byzantine fortress of Enisala — perched above the Razim Lagoon in the Dobrogea region near the Danube Delta.
About this trip
Cetatea Enisala is a 14th-century Byzantine fortress perched on a rocky hill above the Razim-Sinoe lagoon system, near Romania's Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. The dramatic ruins command spectacular views over the shimmering lagoon and surrounding Dobrogea landscape.
The area around Enisala is one of Romania's most historically rich — with evidence of habitation from the Bronze Age through Byzantine and Ottoman periods. The nearby Danube Delta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Europe's best-preserved delta ecosystem.
