Targoviste was the capital of Wallachia from the 14th to the 17th century — and the real seat of power of Vlad III (Vlad the Impaler), who ruled from this very court. At just 80km from Bucharest, it is an easy and fascinating half-day trip.
The Princely Court complex includes the ruins of the royal palace, the magnificent Chindia Tower, churches and an impressive museum. At the top of the tower, you get a wonderful view over the medieval city.
